We're going back to Unschooling!

While there were a lot of things to like about using K12 and the IDVA, it was becoming increasingly frustrating to shoehorn each kid's learning style into their one-size-fits-all curriculum. They did their best to be accommodating and flexible, even putting Little Mister in the ALP (Advanced Learning Program), but it was a lot of extra frustration and hoops through which I, as the parent, had to jump.

We'll keep Abi enrolled in order to get her Braille and O&M services, although she has already been largely unschooling with me anyway. And we'll continue. For example, she read "Go, Dog. Go!" with me three times this weekend. Ha!

With the older kids, I'm tired of taking uninteresting lessons and trying to spruce them up and make them fun, and then attempt to mark some sort of attendance that fits with what we actually did. It's silly to have all of these time requirements when they may have learned an entire unit of math concepts in the car on the way to the grocery store.

Done with all of that.

Now that both the older kids are solid readers, they can learn about whatever their hearts desire, and we'll start at the local library.

I'm getting excited about school again. A very good sign. :)
